Places to Visit

Specialist Railway
Four miles to the north of Aberdovey is the narrow gauge Talyllyn Railway one of the 'Great Little Trains of Wales' that runs for seven miles through the mountains from the wharf at Tywyn to Nant Gwernol, near Abergynolwyn.

Wildlife
A Nature lovers paradise with two RSPB reserves nearby. Wild, unspoilt mountains watch Red Kite, feed badgers, admire rare orchids, wild dunes and look for the 31 varieties of butterfly found in the region.

Centre for Alternative Technology
An award-winning 'village of the future', The Centre for Alternative Technology explores the ways to live in harmony with the world, minimising the destruction of our natural resources and promoting conservation, ecology and self-sufficiency. An excellent day out for all of the family.

King Arthur's Labyrinth
A voyage back in time by boat into huge caverns deep under the mountains to unfold the story of Arthur - the ancient Briton's legendary King. Also, the site of a craft centre and children's adventure playground.

Electric Mountain
Discover the story of North Wales' Electric Mountain a huge hydroelectric powerstation hidden inside the depths of a mountain.

Historical
The Celtica Centre in nearby Machynlleth, once the capital of Wales, offers a superb exhibition of the history of the Celts.

Snowdon & Cadar Idris
A place of great beauty, Snowdonia boasts historic burial chambers, massive castles recalling past wars between the Welsh and the English. Victorian chapels, quaysides and quarries, magnificent bridges and aqueducts.

Watersports
Sailing, Sailboards, Canoeing, Powerboats and Kite Surfing - qualified tuition for beginners to advanced. Bring your own boats and enjoy temporary membership of the Dovey Yacht Club.

Championship Golf Links
The Aberdovey Golf Club has a championship 18 hole links course running adjacent to the sand dunes, with other courses available nearby.

Outward Bound
This world famous outdoor activities centre offers exciting family days during the school holidays. Sample everything from abseiling to raft building.

Raquet and Ball Games
Tennis, putting and bowls.

Horse Riding
Pony trekking from several stables taking in hill and mountain rides as well as treks along the beach.

Fishing
Fishing from the beach, jetty, boat trips, lakes and rivers where you can catch anything from a shrimp to a shark! The jetty is the perfect place for the children to go crabbing.
